People think it comes easy to those blessed enough to enjoy a life in the outdoors; that they were botn to do it and they spend ther lives just having fun. It’s not always like that, something it makes you want to cry…
It’s often the sum of all my willpower that gets me out on the trail, on the tarmac, on the bike or up that wall. I do it because I know it will give me amazing experiences and make me a better person.
I often get told that I must have the best job in the world and I would agree. I’m a scientific presenter, adventurer, business owner and a million other things in between. However, that doesn’t mean to say that sitting up late at night, writing project proposals and sifting through hundreds of photos isn’t tough. It takes every ounce of my self-control to make myself get up and put a hard day’s graft in when no-one is pushing you but yourself.
Last year was a great adventure year. With a trip to the Italian Alps and paddle-boarding down Britain’s longest river already in the bag I am looking forward to what 2015 has to offer. Running kilometres in the rain, cycling through mud logged trails and enduring the bitter cold, snow and ice; all these things make me both a better adventurer and person. With trips to the Alps, Himalayas and Arctic scheduled for 2015 – as well as races on the road, trail and in the mountains – this year is already shaping up to be one full of new adventure and discoveries.
